I spent the first months on this journey photographing corners and spots within the whole. Fixated on a stroke of patience or skill or chance. I was looking for ways to link these minute details, weave them into a whole. I think that may be the struggle of most artists in the early days of their exploration. So I didn't question, I just continued to catalogue. The details only become clear later. But oh how I love to study them. The textures created beneath or on top. The way the many layered canvas comes together in some plan that my subconscious had mapped out. I'm grateful to have come to this later in my life, with the patience to let the work develop, with the courage to start again on a piece that almost works, with the certainty of my heart that loves the finished pieces in a way that it matters little what others see. There are pieces that I may not sell simply because of the details within them.
Someday they might come together into a whole that is closer to the sum of the parts. But more likely I will continue to search and notice. What I look for may change, what I see definitely will. |
