This year, I wanted to welcome summer with an ice cream social. The idea was to get together with friends one time before the crazy schedules of summer took over. What I envisioned was something like this... But there are several steps between idea and event and along the way there is plenty of room for distraction. The first thing for me is always the guest list and the invitation. With young families on the list the numbers increase very quickly. Keeping it under 50 people seemed daunting at first but once the replies came back that a couple families were vacationing we ended at just under 30 people. Invitations were simple with a retro twist. I made a template in case you are inspired to host your own. Click on the image below to download the template. All plans require a back up plan. The original plan was to make ice cream sundaes for an hour and then head to a local water park to occupy the kids and give the adults time to socialize. However, I have not been able to bend the weather to my will on every occasion so a back up plan was in order. The secondary plan was to have a range of activities set up inside for the kids after they finished their ice cream. Which plan did we go with? Sometimes the best thing to do at an event is go with the flow. All of the guests enjoyed the party. The adults were able to talk with old and new friends. The kids had a great time inside and outside with lots of running around in the rain. And I was very happy with the way everything turned out.
If you are curious about how the Ice Cream Bar turned out, come back next week for the next post - Building An Ice Cream Bar! Looking for a unique way to decorate your wedding or next party? Events of all sizes welcome the addition of flowers. Their colors and textures really add something special. I used these simple tissue paper flowers to help carry the color theme of the last wedding I planned. It is such a simple way to add your personal touch and so easy to customize to your event, that I wanted to share it. So get out those scraps of tissue paper and your scissors and I will show you how eay it can be.
Decorating: These flowers are so quick and easy to make you may just starting putting them everywhere. Play around with the size by cutting the tissue larger or smaller. Or try a more pointed edge for a different look. Using more than one color paper gives a fun look as well. The possibilities are limited only by your imagination and what you have on hand The best part is there is no watering necessary!
